Alyssa Reinhardt, at New York City Psychotherapy Collective

Alyssa Reinhardt, MHC-LP

Do you often feel like the world wasn’t built for the way your brain works? Whether you’re autistic, have ADHD, are otherwise neurodivergent, or are still figuring out what fits, you may be exhausted from masking, burned out, or struggling with sensory overload and executive functioning. Maybe your inner voice keeps asking, “Why can’t I just do things like everyone else?” Maybe you and your partner seem to speak different languages, or you’re caring for a neurodivergent loved one while your own needs have been put on hold. Many neurodivergent people come to therapy after years of being misunderstood, sometimes even by past therapists. Here, you won’t have to explain or defend who you are. My neurodiversity-affirming approach means your brain is respected, not treated as something to be fixed. The goal isn’t to make you look more “normal.” It’s to build a life that works for you. In our work together, I draw most on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and nervous-system-informed therapy. ACT helps quiet the shame and self-criticism that so often come from years of trying to fit a neurotypical mold, so you can spend less energy fighting your brain and more energy living by what matters to you. Nervous-system-informed work helps you notice the early signs of overwhelm and respond before it turns into shutdown or burnout.

Sessions are collaborative and flexible: you’re welcome to stim, fidget, take breaks, or step off screen whenever you need to. Your sensory needs and communication style are welcome, and you’re the expert on your own experience. My role is to help you make sense of it. We’ll approach your patterns with curiosity rather than judgment and build practical tools for overwhelm, executive functioning, and self-criticism. You don’t need to get better at masking. Together, we’ll work toward understanding yourself more deeply, letting go of shame, navigating relationships with more ease, and creating systems that actually work for your brain. I work with LGBTQ+ individuals and couples, including those in queer, trans, and non-traditional relationships. I understand that neurodivergence, gender, and sexuality can intersect in complex ways, and you are welcome here exactly as you are.
