Brooke Robinson, LMSW, New York City Psychotherapy Collective

Meet Brooke Robinson, LMSW

Therapy with me is:

Warm and unhurried, a space safe enough to finally let your guard down. I believe the therapeutic relationship we build together makes the deeper work possible.

Outside of the therapy room:

You can find me running, playing with my puppies, or rummaging at an estate sale or antique market.

Maybe you're the one everyone else leans on, the person who takes pride in handling everything on their own and rarely asks for help. Opening up might feel risky, or you've been let down enough times that trusting others doesn't come easily. You might be running on empty, feeling anxious, burnt out, or overwhelmed by your own emotions, and wondering who you are underneath everything you've been holding together. Or, maybe life isn’t feeling too heavy but you want to learn better coping skills and have someone to talk through the everyday challenges whether big or small.

If any of this resonates, reaching out isn't a sign you've failed at handling things. It might be the bravest thing you've done for yourself in a while. Many people often wait until things start to feel like too much before reaching out feels like an option.

Wherever you’re starting from, therapy can be a place to slow down, relearn what it feels like to trust others and yourself, and reconnect with the parts of yourself that have been hidden away.

There is a quiet exhaustion of not feeling fully seen that carries more weight than we often realize. I truly believe healing happens in relationships. Together, we can work to build a space where you can finally set some of that weight down.

You've been showing up for everyone else for a long time. I'd be honored to show up for you.

Brooke's approach:

My approach is person-centered at its core. I believe you're the expert on your own life, and my role is to create a space where you feel grounded enough to explore it honestly. Over the years, my clients have told me our sessions are the first place they've been able to exhale, where they don't have to perform, explain, or hold it all together. I believe that sense of safety is what makes deeper growth possible. From there, we can explore the patterns that keep you stuck, work through what's beneath them, and build confidence in trusting your own emotions and instincts. I work with young adults and adults navigating anxiety, burnout, hypersensitivity and hypervigilance, relationship challenges, racial identity struggles, and the long term effects of chronic stress and trauma. I draw from humanistic therapy, psychodynamic therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and I tailor our work to what you need rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach. I meet every client where they are, without judgment. In practice, I enjoy bringing mindfulness and somatic tools into sessions. Chronic stress and trauma can leave you feeling disconnected from your mind and body, and grounding practices can help you reconnect with yourself in ways talking alone sometimes can't. As a mixed-race Black woman, I see culturally competent care as foundational to good therapy, not an add-on. My training is grounded in mindfulness and trauma-informed care and I have a lot of experience working with BIPOC and mixed-race communities in both California and New York. In my post undergrad years, I co-facilitated an African American women's wellbeing circle in the Bay Area of California. I especially value supporting clients who are navigating questions of identity and belonging, or who have rarely felt fully understood in the spaces they find themselves in.
