Johanna Bellorin, Licensed Master Social Worker

Johanna Bellorin

Therapy with me is:

Down to earth and honest. I bring some humor and straight talk when needed—I'm warm, but I'll also keep it real with you because that's where growth happens.

Outside of the therapy room:

I'm usually reading, running, or hanging with my puppy and two cats. Staying connected to my family keeps me grounded.

Therapy doesn’t have to feel intimidating, stiff, or overly clinical. If you’re feeling stuck in your relationship, caught in the same arguments, or struggling to understand each other despite caring deeply, you’re not alone. Many couples come to therapy feeling disconnected, misunderstood, or unsure how they ended up repeating the same patterns.

I specialize in working with couples navigating relationship transitions and challenges, including LGBTQ+ couples, interracial and bicultural couples, and partners balancing different cultural backgrounds, identities, or life experiences. This may include adjusting to marriage or long-term partnership, navigating communication breakdowns, rebuilding trust, managing conflict, or figuring out how to be a team while still honoring individuality.

My therapy style is direct, down to earth, and very human. I aim to make therapy feel approachable and real—not something you have to “perform” in or feel nervous about getting wrong. I bring warmth, humor, and honesty into the room, and I gently call out patterns that may be keeping you stuck, while remaining supportive and empathetic.

As a bilingual Latina therapist and immigrant from Venezuela, I deeply understand the complexity that culture, identity, and systemic stressors can bring into relationships. I’m especially mindful of how cultural expectations, family dynamics, immigration experiences, and societal pressures can show up between partners. My lived experience informs my work and fuels my commitment to creating affirming, inclusive spaces for LGBTQ+ individuals, immigrants, and BIPOC communities.

I work with both couples and individuals and offer therapy in Spanish and English. Whether you feel most comfortable speaking one language or moving between both, you are fully welcome here.

My approach is relational, trauma-informed, and grounded in evidence-based practices. I often draw from:

  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) to help couples understand the emotional cycles they get stuck in and build deeper connections, and

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to explore how thoughts, emotions, and behaviors impact the relationship. We’ll focus on improving communication, increasing emotional awareness, learning how to regulate during conflict, and creating patterns that feel more supportive and sustainable.

Ultimately, my goal is to help you feel more connected, understood, and confident in how you show up in your relationship. Therapy with me is a collaborative process where we slow things down, get curious, and work toward meaningful change—together.

Outside of the therapy room, I enjoy reading, going for runs, and spending time with my puppy and two cats. Staying connected to my family and the people I love is what keeps me grounded.
