Therapy with me is:

Engaging and down to earth. I bring energy and connection to sessions—therapy doesn't have to feel stiff or formal.

Outside of the therapy room:

Reality TV (espcially Bravo) is my guilty pleasure!

Many people feel pressure to keep the peace, stay close with family, or pretend everything is fine even when home is the very place that brings up stress, frustration, or old wounds. If being around family feels heavy rather than supportive, you’re not alone.

I work with young adults who are navigating the challenges of growing into adulthood and establishing independence, while still carrying the influence of early family dynamics. This can include unclear or shifting boundaries, seeing parents as imperfect individuals rather than idealized figures, or lingering childhood roles such as being the “responsible one” or the peacemaker in the family. As clients work to define themselves on their own terms, it’s common for feelings such as grief, anger, confusion, or guilt to arise, especially when there is pressure to keep the peace or move forward without acknowledging what has changed.

These experiences often raise questions like:
- Why do I feel so angry or irritated around my family?
- Why do I push my feelings down until I suddenly explode?
- Why does spending time with loved ones feel suffocating instead of supportive?
- Why do I still feel misunderstood, unseen, or not “enough”?

If any of these questions resonate, know that you’re not “too sensitive,” “dramatic,” or “the problem.” Family dynamics can amplify old wounds, childhood expectations, and patterns you’ve worked hard to outgrow.

In our work together, we will explore the bigger picture. This includes the messages you received about your emotions growing up, the roles you were placed in as a child, and the ways unmet needs may still shape your relationships today. This isn’t about blaming or shaming one another. It’s about understanding how your past impacts how you show up now. At the same time, I help you build practical tools you can use right away. Together, we develop ways to manage overwhelming emotions, communicate more clearly, and set boundaries that protect your peace whether you’re preparing for a difficult conversation or navigating everyday interactions.

Remi’s approach:

I don’t believe therapy is one-size-fits-all. Everyone comes in with different experiences, stressors, and goals, so I blend evidence-based approaches in a way that’s tailored to you and what you’re navigating. Here’s how I might use each modality to support your growth:

  • DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy): When emotions feel intense or overwhelming, I use DBT to help you build practical, real-life skills for managing distress, regulating emotions, and staying grounded instead of feeling hijacked by the moment.

  • CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy): We look at the thought patterns that keep you stuck, especially around anxiety, self-doubt, or relationships, and work on shifting them in ways that feel realistic and supportive rather than forced or invalidating.

  • Narrative Therapy: This helps us separate you from the problem. Together, we explore how your experiences have shaped your story while also making room for new perspectives that feel more aligned with who you are now.

  • Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT): If you tend to be hard on yourself, we work on building self-compassion and understanding, recognizing that what happened in the past was not your fault while still empowering you to choose how you respond moving forward.

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS): We make sense of the different parts of you, such as the protective parts, the anxious parts, and the ones that feel hurt or shut down, so they can work together instead of feeling at odds.

  • Mindfulness: Woven throughout our work, mindfulness helps you slow down, stay present, and respond to life with more clarity rather than reacting from old patterns or survival modes.

In addition to working with anxiety, depression, and relationship concerns, I support individuals navigating major life transitions, including job changes or loss, separation or divorce, infidelity or breaches of trust, and adjusting to medical diagnoses or shifts in identity. I also work with clients who feel stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected from themselves, and who are seeking greater clarity, confidence, and direction in their lives. Whether the focus is healing from relational pain, building resilience, strengthening self-worth, or creating meaningful change, therapy can be a space to slow down, make sense of what you’re experiencing, and move forward with intention. If you’re feeling ready to begin, or even just curious about whether therapy might be a good fit, I invite you to reach out to schedule a consultation and see if working together feels right for you.
